Eight reasons to celebrate a mid-week winter engagement, wedding, or renewal of your wedding vows, at BK
1 April - 30 September 2019 (excluding July)
  1. FLEXIBLE OPTIONS: Choose one or all from these options at BK: the deckhouse, the farmhouse lawns, the nature reserve, the working sheep and wheat farm, the restaurant or the guesthouse. All options are flexible, and can be adjusted to your unique plans and wishes.
  2. INTIMATE & PRIVATE: BK is especially perfect for private, intimate and personalised celebrations, with medium to small groups of people
  3. CLOSE TO CAPE TOWN: BK is only one hour's drive from Cape Town, a perfect day out in the platteland for your city slicker friends and family members.
  4. AVAILABILITY & PRICES: Getting married on a weekday means that wedding professionals and suppliers offer better prices and availability.
  5. WEATHER: Showing off your love for fashion in your floral wedding dress or Italian-woven woollen suit is so much more enjoyable on a crisp sunny winter day then on a smouldering mid summer day.
  6. TOP-NOTCH KITCHEN & SERVICE: In its 20 years of operation, BK has built a solid reputation for its impeccable farm-style hospitality and deliciously fresh food.
  7. STAY & PLAY: Our 5 rooms and self-catering cottage allow you and your guests to stay the night. Keep an eye out for our annual winter specials!
  8. LOVE, GET MARRIED, LOVE, REPEAT: Getting married only once is, well, so last season. Today, we get married in the summer and repeat the fun in winter. We get married in Europe, and repeat the fun in Africa. We get married at 25, and repeat the fun at 45 (and 65, and ...)

1. The Deckhouse

The BK Deckhouse was built with the specific purpose of hosting celebrations for medium sized groups of guests. While the two-story deckhouse interior has an intimate and informal clubhouse kind of atmosphere, the balcony and stoep overlook the majestic Elandskloof Mountains, Elandsberg Nature Reserve and our dam - the perfect place to view sunsets. Food and drinks can be served from our deckhouse kitchen inside or outside the deckhouse, or at the lawn, where a big fire can be made in true African style. 2. The Gardens

The sprawling lawns, manicured plants and shady trees of the BK Gardens offer a true, authentic farm setting for your wedding. 3. The Nature Reserve

The 10,000 acre Elandsberg Nature Reserve is a protected nature conservation area, boasting free roaming herds of zebra, quagga, eland, wildebees and an abundance of flowers and birds. 5. The Guesthouse

There is a long history of hospitality at Bartholomeus Klip, which shows in the friendly smiles that greet our guests and the relaxed atmosphere of the homestead. You are welcome to make the house your own, perhaps in one of the reception rooms where an open fire crackles in the winter months, or on the broad verandah that winds around the house and catches the late afternoon sun. There are four double rooms with bathrooms in the beautifully furnished farmhouse and one separate suite outside, with its own secluded verandah looking over the veld and up to the mountains. Finishes everywhere are luxurious and stylish, with crisp cotton bedding and elegant fabrics. Our own toiletries add a special touch to the Victorian-style bathrooms. latest farmer and ranger updates

This page is specially for our farmers and rangers, who are constantly coming across interesting things on their drives across our farmlands and through the Elandsberg Nature Reserve, keeping you up to date with the latest news and intriguing discoveries from Bartholomeus Klip.

Our commitment to the environment is at the heart of everything we do. Read more about the Elandsberg Nature Reserve here

Inside every seed is the potential for an incredible harvest

We hope this is true for this season! Its that time year when we watch from a distance, the dust trail from the combines and tractors as they harvest the lands. They have been racing the weather this season and have bailed about 1100 oat bales and 345 medic bales so far .The canola was a fair harvest pulling in just over 1.7 t/ha which is a good average for this crop. They also windrowed the last of the oats and triticale to protect it from the wind until they can harvest .They have harvested about 300ha so far and are working against the elements to get it all off and minimise any losses. In total Elandsberg harvests 1300ha of crops which include about 850ha of wheat and the balance made up of barley, oats, triticale, medics and canola. The expectation is a good crop for this year and we hold thumbs for the crop team to achieve success with their crop. An unexpected 4mm of rain slowed down operation today but they will be back on the job as soon as its dry enough. Make sure you visit us at this special time of year to get a real working farm experience and see the team in action.

sustainability | Environmental Responsibility

At the heart of our business is our commitment to the environment.
The Elandsberg Nature Reserve was formally declared a provincial nature reserve in 2008 in recognition of its importance to conservation. Its botanical value is incalculable since it preserves the largest remaining portions of two highly threatened renosterveld and fynbos plant communities. Bartholomeus Klip has signed up with Cape Nature's Stewardship programme to safeguard the reserve in perpetuity, and has played a central rol in the Quagga revival project. Besides doing educational nature drives for our guests, our rangers are also involved in the reserves Geometric Tortoise headstart project - a means of providing protection and ensuring the survival of this critically endangered tortoise after the devastating fires of 2012. For fun they also get to help with the feeding and care of our disease free buffalo herd.
Bartholomeus Klip was awarded Silver in the Best for Conservation category in the African Responsible Tourism Awards 2015.
Rondeheuwel Primary School, our local school for children from the farms in the area, is in need of help to try to provide the children with opportunities for enrichment, as well as the best education possible. Most of the ladies working at Bartholomeus Klip have children who attend the school, and they are always working at fundraising to help the local community’s children who are less fortunate than their own. The limited government resources available make their task more of a challenge. Since the opening of Bartholomeus Klip in 1997, we have always tried to help the workers & their families living here in whatever way we can. Social responsibility has always been important to us, & by becoming Fair Trade accredited, we have confirmed our values & commitment to our community. We invite you to share our vision for the children & donate any spare coins you may have rattling around in your purse. The money will be used to fund a very important project: the hiring of a school bus, which we plan to use to take the children on educational excursions & sports days to schools in other areas. We hope this will expand their horizons as well as give them the chance to meet and interact with children at other schools. The coins will also be used to help with the feeding scheme set up by the school, which provides all pupils with a cooked meal. For many of the children, it is the only meal they get for the day.   iKusasa The Ikusasa School of Cooking www.ikusasa.co.za began as a small project of St. Martin's Diocesan Home for Children who wanted to create a program that would help school going youth within children's Homes to acquire skills in catering and hospitality. It was joined by two employees of the Three Cities Hotel Group who expanded on the original vision and spread the word amongst the Durban Food and catering Industry.  The project attracted the attention of the Chaine Des Rotisseurs, a French Food and Wine Society who were on the lookout for a worthy project to support in the field of hospitality and catering. With the backing of Chaine Des Rotisseurs and its newly formed Chaine Foundation Trust, more interest was sparked! The International Hotel School were the next on board to get behind the project, bringing serious recognition, putting Ikusasa on an entirely new level. From its humble beginnings, Ikusasa has grown into a project that offers its graduates Internationally recognized qualifications and opportunities. The Ikusasa School in Riebeek West was opened in 2013 with great success. The students were picked from the Riebeek West Special School and surrounding community after completing an application to attend. The enrolled students fulfil their practical training at the school and at some of the local restaurants and hotels in the immediate area. We had a total of 4 students over the last year, who joined the BK team three days a week and we are so glad to be part of such an initiative where young adults are given opportunities to further themselves and develop a passion for cooking from our chefs who mentored them.
