Dear {name}, we hope your year has started well, and your new year's resolutions are beginning to take shape or pay off. All numerological, mathematical and ... take cover ... philosophical musings about the number 2020 aside, for us the year 2020 is simply the year we turn twenty-three. It means we can look back on twenty-three years of building warm relationships with loyal guests. Twenty-three years of building the Bartholomeus Klip brand, which is by now deeply rooted in a solid reputation for hearty, abundant hospitality and idyllic natural scenery. Naturally, we want to celebrate our birthday with you! So we are dropping our rates to R 2,300 full board per person per night. This includes a room at our main Farmhouse, brunch, high tea and dinner, guided nature drives, and free access to kayaks, mountain bikes and hiking trails. Valid from 1 APR to 5 JUL 2020, direct bookings only: info@bartholomeusklip.com In other news (scroll down for details), we will be exploring chef Louise's Italian roots with a pop-up forest food experience on 27 March. We welcomed a herd of eland at the farm, rescued three baby secretary birds, spotted another special bird, and have launched our own, home-grown Wagyu beef brand. [ FIRE & SMOKE POP UP ] Roots. They define us. They inspire us. And if they lead all the way to Italy, they make us hungry ... On 27 March we will explore chef Louise's Italian roots with a pop-up food experience, at a very appropriate location: the deep-rooted blue gum forest that sits quietly between the dam and the Elandsberg Nature Reserve. Join us at our social forest table for an unforgettable, informal food fest, showcasing bold flavours of Italy and Africa in six hand-crafted courses with award-winning wines from a proudly regional wine maker. Seats are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment. R750 pp includes all food (six courses) and all wine (six glasses). Bookings info@bartholomeusklip.com |
[ ELAND GUESTS ] Five adult eland arrived at Elandsberg Farms for a relaxing holiday from their hard work at the Gantouw Project. The eland were part of a Gantouw Project's grazing experiment at Rondevlei in Cape Town, and and are now searching for a new area to continue this unique research. Elandsberg is only a temporary home for these habituated animals and their minders. The eland are very people-friendly, and are staying right at the BK Farmhouse, so it's easy for guests to meet up close and personal with these giant antelope of the Strandveld and get the full story from the monitors on duty. |
[ TO THE RESCUE ] - Three young secretary birds kept falling out of their nest in a tree in the Nature Reserve, and were brought to the Reserve office to hand-feed and keep safe from predators. Now in their adolescence, the birds have naturally flown the coop and are learning to hunt insects and mice in the fields. The Three Secretaries can be spotted easily around the Farmhouse, but seem rather shy. So please, don't stare ... or ask them to type a letter for you ;-) |
[ SPOTTED ] Nature Reserve manager Bernard spotted an out-of-range woolly-necked stork at Bartholomeus Klip. To our knowledge, it is only the second time that this bird has been spotted in the Western Cape, as it normally occurs only as far south as Durban. |
[ WAGYU BEEF ] Make your weekend braai extra special this week, with our delicious, home-grown Wagyu beef.
