Dear {name}, South Africa is open for travel and ready to welcome you with open arms. In fact, there are very good reasons to visit South Africa right now. The tourism sector can't wait to welcome visitors after a two-year lull, the country is looking particularly lush and colourful after abundant winter rains, and our wide-open spaces are of course naturally Covid-safe. In any case, let these minor restrictions not stop you: at arrival you will be asked to produce a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test not older than 72 hours, and you will be asked to complete this [ Traveller Health Questionnaire ]. Face masks are mandatory in public places, and there is a national public curfew from 00h00-04h00. Further down in this newsletter, we welcome our latest Quagga foal, announce our Christmas lunch and new incentives programme, introduce you to the bright smile of Esmeralda, give an update on our almond project, and remind you of our special Wagyu lunch and upcoming Smoke & Fire Pop-Up. We hope to be welcoming you at Bartholomeus Klip soon. Love from the BK team xx |

[ SMOKE & FIRE ] Nearing the end of this year puts us in an early festive mood, and what better way to celebrate than to get together with friends around long, softly candlelit tables? [ QUAGGA ] Finally, after two years of waiting, Nina has given birth to a top quality foal. We are very excited to find this foal in the breeding group at Elandsberg Nature Reserve. The Elandsberg Nature Reserve is now home to a total of 24 Quagga, consisting of three breeding groups and a small bachelor herd. Read more about our Quagga, or book a guided nature drive [ here ] |
[ INCENTIVES ] Recent corporate events at BK have made us realise how unique and exclusive the BK experience can be for companies that want to reward staff, celebrate a milestone or bond over shared experiences. For more than twenty years, we have helped groups to turn meetings, explorations and celebrations into truly unique, one-of-a-kind experiences. The historic farm and private nature reserve provide countless opportunities and locations for authentic, exclusive and memorable experiences, while our dedicated team guarantees the highest hospitality standards. [ IN THE SPOTLIGHT ] Visitors to BK rave about our guided nature drives, and that’s no surprise with guides as passionate and knowledgeable as Esmeralda. Hailing from the beautiful little town of Kuruman in the Northern Cape, Esmeralda discovered early on in life that what she wanted more than anything was working in nature, with animals. She started helping out at the local animal welfare while in grade ten, and loved it so much that she joined the SPCA in Kimberley after finishing high school, and continued her work at the SPCA during her studies. But Esmeralda also knew that she wanted to do more than just helping out. She wanted to make a difference, and make a real contribution to nature conservation. For the next few years, she set out on formal trainings, completed the Field Guide training at the Goodhope Nature Reserve Academy in 2013, and certified as an official Field, Marine, Fynbos Biome, Game Lodge Management and Wildlife Guide with the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA). She worked at the Good Hope Nature Reserve from 2014 to 2017, and started working at BK in 2017 as a game ranger and field guide. |
[ ALMONDS ] Our young almond trees are looking particularly happy in this lovely spring weather! We planted our first batch (fifteen thousand, 40ha) in 2019, and the second batch in 2020 during lockdown, with the help of everyone at BK - including chefs and hospitality staff. A third batch of another eight thousand trees was added in August 2021. We expect our first official harvest after five years, but have already started handpicking almonds and making them available at our [ online farm pantry ]. |
[ PANTRY ] Louise is constantly updating our online pantry with new products, which you may order for your stay at BK, or for delivery at home. Have a look at our new home-made strawberry jam, croissants, chocolate and walnut brownies, or gluten free farm loaf [ ORDER NOW ] We also still have Wagyu beef available [ ORDER ] |
