![]() Dear {name}, it's an eternal cycle that so profoundly defines the rhythm of life at an African farm: as the year comes to an end and temperatures rise, everything and everyone slows down. Farmlands and sheep – harvested and sheared – settle down for a well-deserved break, while the nature reserve and its residents shed foliage and fur in anticipation of the scorching summer sun. We, too, follow nature's lead. This is slow living at its best – and you're invited! We look forward to welcoming you at BK again soon. Love from all of us at BK xx Season update Before we can slow and settle down with a gin and tonic on the stoep, our farmers have their work cut out: wheat, canola, triticale, and oats need to be harvested and baled – all 840, 210, 150, and 100 hectares of them, respectively. That’s almost 850 big pack bales! ![]() 'Tis the fire season A heartfelt thank you ? ? ? to Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services, CapeNature, and the Winelands Fire Protection Association for managing the wildfire that broke out in the night of 3 November at Elandsberg. In situations like these, everyone at BK chips in to the best of their abilities. Unsurprisingly, for Louise, Lesley and their team, this meant sharing some quintessentially delicious BK hospitality with the more than 40 fire fighters – breakfast for everyone! ![]() Christmas Lunch Our annual Christmas lunch at the Deckhouse takes place on 18 December. Celebrate an early Christmas in the country, and take a well-deserved break from work schedules and to-do lists. Reminisce about the year that was, with friends and family, while children of all ages frolic in the grass, in the forest or in the water – barefoot, carelessly, cheerfully. Bookings and enquiries ![]() Provenance, quality and freshness Louise Gillett makes no secret of the fact that much of her cooking revolves around the quality of the ingredients she sources from the farm, the nature reserve, the Swartland, and the West Coast. Provenance, quality and freshness are to her food what fairy dust is to Tinker Bell ;-) An avid gardener herself, you'll find Louise's very own "hot house" tucked away under the eucalyptus trees near the Deckhouse. Organic soil and a copious supply of pure Elandsberg spring water allows her to meticulously cultivate micro herbs, flowers and small garnish for the kitchen, and seasonal bulbs and indigenous blooms for the Farmhouse. ![]() Blue Spider Lily Nature reserve manager Bernard (@elandsbergnr) was lucky to find a group of Blue Spiderlilys in full bloom in the Elandsberg Nature Reserve. These Western Cape endemics only flower for one day every year. Did you know that some of the flowering plants that grow here can only be found here?
