Breaking New Ground

Breaking New Ground

After years of planning and months of preparation with the earth moving and irrigation installations, and the intensive task of positioning each stake to mark the individual spaces for each ,the first Almond trees were finally planted on Elandsberg this morning. The first 20ha are being completed this week (about 8000 trees). The trees arrived in bunches of 20 and were collected from Ceres with great care to ensure the roots remain wet and protected. The bundles were rinsed in water and then the roots were inoculated and handed over to the team to be planted. It will take around 3 years before the trees start producing the first fruit. We wish the team great success with this project and do look out for the orchard on the hillside when next you visit BK .
