Another successful release of a clutch of Geometric Tortoises on Elandsberg Nature Reserve. These critically endangered tortoises were raised in the headstart program run by Jackie and Bernard at the Elandsberg Nature Reserve in an attempt to bolster the natural population after a decimating veld fire in 2012. After several years under managed conditions, the hatchlings that have reached a certain size and weight are released back into the reserve. It is hoped that these are large enough to be predator proof and will start breeding a year or two after being set free.
